AES 20: Dewibumi
Greetings, dear reader !!
I'll be blunt with you folks once again, I'm keeping this one short, for real this time. A bit of tangent but the reason why I'm keeping this short is because I don't have my laptop with me currently for some technical issues regarding the device, and I'm not very used to nor comfortable at typing an essay without it, for I usually go off tangent like this as if I'm texting someone who dozed off halfway through my messages. But anyway, let's start today's topic.
Enter: Dewibumi
Dewibumi is a community led by Kak Mpit, an administrative staff in Smipa. This community is more like a collective initiative among individuals that live around Kak Mpit's neighbourhood. It's nothing particularly unique, but it is something praiseworthy owing to the fact that it's trying to achieve a noble cause.
Y'see, dear reader, Dewibumi wrestles in the world of waste. Yes, I'm talking about "trash" waste: household waste, plastic waste, electronic waste, etcetera. Mind you that the participants of this community aren't garbage men nor women; they're here merely to be responsible of how they treat their waste. In what way, you may ask? Well, it's quite simple. They process organic waste into fertilisers and consumable maggots; while anorganic waste is to be cleaned first and stored at a larger organisation.
You might be wondering now, is this really it? Well, one thing that I found interesting from this community is that they offer a certain value that could raise spirit of the average Indonesian to act according to what the essence of this whole initiative is. And KNOWING our fellow neighbours, I'm sure you're already familiar what tempts them the most...
Monetary Value.
Just like the old saying, "Where there's a will, there's a way. But where there's money, there's a will." I think, despite whatever opinion you may have, this is a good way to create zealous individuals. While it is temporary, but I have a belief that all humans are fundamentally zealous; it is the most reliable way to spark up determination towards something.
Of course, most people (at least here) wouldn't understand the essence of such movement when you're explaining it directly in front of their face. A few days ago Kak Robert gave us a lecture; it was about how to abstract knowledge using also our experience. This is a perfectly logical way of thinking, but people have different ways of thinking; they could either process the knowledge first to gain practical experience, and vice versa. This is exactly the case that Dewibumi took measure upon.
Anyway, tl;dr.
Value is something that could benefit party(s).
Spirit is the determination that comes from one's own volition.
And lastly, essence is the core idea of a much larger thing, such as this.
As always, I thank you for reading this far, and I truly apologise if the tone of the article is very casual and unrefined. I promise, this won't be the case anymore once I have my lappy back. Until next time!
