AES07 Fashion and Gender

I believe that fashion is genderless. Fashion is a place where people can be whoever they want to be and provides us with the freedom to express ourselves in a way that we want. Fashion’s main purpose is to promote individuality, therefore it’s genderless. 

Whenever I go shopping, I usually go to the women’s section and I find many types of clothes with many shades of colors. You can find more jewelry, purses, hats, hair clips, etc. I understand that this is marketing because most women like things that are more feminine meanwhile most men like more masculine things.

But I feel like everyone has every right to dress the way they want to because for some people like me fashion is self-expression. But people most often judge people for not dressing like their gender. Women wearing men’s clothes are now normalized, but men that wear women’s clothes get an insane amount of hate and judgment. The double standard is real. Like, how come when a woman wears masculine things it’s cool, but when men wear feminine things it’s weird. 

People judge those men as less of a man. Just because you were born a woman, it doesn’t mean you have to be feminine also works the same way with men. A man can wear something feminine and does not want to be a woman. Masculinity isn’t just for men, femininity isn’t just for women. It’s for everyone. A real man knows that he’s a man, so doing feminine things doesn’t bother him and doesn’t make him feel less of a man. 

I love how now there are more male celebrities that promote “genderless fashion”. For example, the fashion icon himself Harry Styles. He has been seen wearing pearls, rings, nail polish, dresses, etc. Also, Timothee Chalamet, being the pretty boy he is changed the way people think. Pretty boys now are attractive.

I find men that wear pearls, nail polish, or feminine colors so attractive. First of all, they look so cute, and they usually come with a great personality. They don’t force themselves to follow what people say is the one right way. And that means they have their own opinion and stand by that which is a turn-on (at least for me).  

So, just go and express yourself through the way you dress. Both feminine and Masculine are so cool, as long as you are being your true self.
