AES174 Step Away From the Canvas

We know very well that errors are better recognized in the works of others than in our own,

And that often, while reproving little faults in others, you may ignore great ones in yourself.

A very good plan every now and then is to go away and have a little relaxation, 

For when you come back to your work, your judgement will be surer.

Go some distance away because then the work appears smaller, and more of it can be taken in at a glance, 

And a lack of harmony and proportion is more readily seen.

When we’ve been working on something for a long time on our own, sometimes we get too absorbed in our own work to spot mistakes being made. This is why taking little breaks can be very beneficial to improving the quality of our work. We can watch and learn from what others are doing, and more importantly, quietly reflect on what we have been doing thus far, and how we might better improve it in the future.
