AES30 Sexist Double Standard

For those who don’t know, the double standard is a rule or principle which is unfairly applied in different ways to different people or groups. Let's start with the small thing, do you notice that people use different words to explain what a woman does and what a man does when they actually did the same thing. For example, Taylor Swift said that when a man does something he's strategic, but when a woman does the same thing she's calculative. A man can react, a woman can only overreact.
Notice how when men get older they will form this dad body, which is a bigger version of their previous body. But that body is accepted in our society, even some people find that dad bodies are attractive. Because people think that dad bodies are natural, so the man actually looks like a human. But when a woman gives birth she is expected to get back in shape, meanwhile, men don’t understand the struggle that the women have to go through. The pain she had when she was pregnant when she gave birth and breastfeeding. I know that breastfeeding women need to have good nutrition to produce breast milk, it makes sense if they form a bigger body. If a man can have a dad body then a woman shouldn’t be expected to look like a twig after she gave birth.
Men are overly praised for taking care of their children, but women are expected to be caregivers. A woman who takes care of her kids is simply doing what is expected of her, but a man who takes care of his kids is an exceptional, involved father. For women, it’s expected to love and protect and show up for your kid’s ballet class. For men, an hour or two alone with the kids on a weekend somehow warrants a trophy. It’s like he deserves to win the best dad of the year awards(or a world’s best dad mug). When in reality that’s below the bare minimum.
Women have to pay more for everyday items because of the “pink tax”. The “pink tax” refers to how products for women, like razors in “feminine” colors, are often cost more than the men’s equivalent. Even in baby clothes, I see many shirts for babies but somehow the pink one cost more than the blue one. It’s sad because women need to pay more for their day-to-day needs and we still haven’t active equal pay for men and women.
When a woman cries, it’s viewed as something normal she’s just expressing her emotion. But when a man cries, he’s told to man up. This is actually thought to very young boys, their parents shame young boys for simply expressing their emotions. It’s also why many men and up having serious anger issues, it’s because that’s the only way he can express his emotion.
No matter their skills, men are treated like they know more about any given subject, while women always have to prove their knowledge. This is such an issue because people always question my brain function just because Im a woman.
So those are some out of so many sexist double standards that I find on a day-to-day basis. And this needs to stop and we need to change the way we think. We need to call out people that are sexist, we need to stop them. Because sexism is bad for everyone, we would live better off without sexism.

Good points! It takes time to change people's perspectives about gender bias or what you call sexist double standards, etc. But for your information, it has been better since the sixties. Before you would never see a man holding a baby in public. I used to use a baby Bjorn on my chest carrying Kano while doing grocery shopping, doing laundry, or even vaccuuming my apartment and people looked at me as normal! Some of my friends still teased me as a househusband, male wife, or full-time father! But who cares? spending time with my son is precious! Nowadays, husbands or fathers are getting more domestic chores equally, sharing responsibility with their partner. So in shorts, it's getting much better than before :) Thanks Sasky! Good writing! I enjoy it!
Thank you for sharing Om Joe! I really appreciate it.
