AES43 Self Expression Through Fashion
I personally am someone that is kinda extra when it comes to what I wear, I just love dressing up and “looking good”. I really put time and dedication into what I wear, I really enjoy the process of picking out outfits. I think what I wear can represent how I am as a person, fashion is self-expression. The clothes you wear are much more meaningful than simply what you look like, but they are one of the greatest ways to truly express yourself to the world. What you choose to put on each morning can reflect your current mental state, mood, anticipations, and excitement.
As someone with low self-esteem, I really think that dressing up can help me to feel more confident. You can really tell my mood of the day or my excitement, or what im trying to be for the day. I like to give my outfits some little titles, for example, some days I feel like dressing so I look like a fashion student in Paris. Or let’s say it’s hot outside, and I would dress like I’m going to the beach when in reality I will just go and read outside to get the beach vibe. Sometimes all I need is to dress up to feel my inner girl boss energy. Altho im always #girlboss but I really feel like it when Im dressing like some businesswoman. So it’s like a fake it till you make it situation.
When Im doing research for what Im going to wear, I usually look up some outfit ideas on Pinterest. In that process, I actually learn many facts about fashion, or specifically fashion history. And that starts to be one of the aspects that affect the way I dress. The more I know, the more I see fashion as art. That’s why it’s such a perfect way to express myself, to show people my personality.
Some people think that Im way too extra, in the way I dress. Well, I do see the event im attending and pick out an outfit that suits me best. But because of the pandemic, I can’t really go anywhere. So well don’t call me crazy if I wear a full-on, iconic, and over-the-top outfit to get groceries. Because supermarkets and coffee shops are my runway, since I can’t really go anywhere.
