AES52 Harry Styles fighting toxic masculinity and supporting feminism

Harry Styles is one of my favorite icons of all time because of his music, his personality, and also his fashion. Throughout the years we can see how Harry has become more into fashion, he has promoted gender fluidity. He has inspired many people, both fashionably and socially. Harry was first known from boy band one direction, and he has many fans, he was also someone that people see as attractive. 

By showing interest in more feminine fashion, or gender-fluid fashion he is being an example to inspire his fans. Harry has definitely made a power move. Now fashion items such as pearl neckless, nail polish, dresses, also flowy clothing are more acceptable for men to wear. I saw one of harry’s interviews, he said that he always found women’s fashion more interesting and more fun. He always wondered since when men’s fashion had to be boring. Men should be confident expressing their fashion sense without having to be judged for not being “manly” enough, and not meeting the toxic gender standards that society pushes both men and women to follow.

Harry Styles is also a feminist! He made a post on his Twitter in 2014, showing his support towards the HeforShe campaign by UN Women. In 2015, while promoting One Direction's final album, Styles was asked in an interview if it was important for their songs like "What Make You Beautiful" and "Girl Almighty" to empower fans. Each of these songs is a fun, positive message for young women to hopefully feel good in their skin, something Styles believes in. Knowing the band's fans are predominantly female, Styles answered in kind.

Harry also said this in his 2019 interview with Timothee Chalamet "I didn't grow up in a man's man world. I grew up with my mum and my sister. But I definitely think in the last two years, I've become a lot more content with who I am. I think there's so much masculinity in being vulnerable and allowing yourself to be feminine, and I'm very comfortable with that. Growing up you don't even know what those things mean. You have this idea of what being masculine is and as you grow up and experience more of the world, you become more comfortable with who you are. Today it's easier to embrace masculinity in so many different things."

That is such a powerful statement, let’s just be honest. Harry Styles thank you so much for being such an inspiring man, being an amazing artist, being a fashion icon, and thank you for proudly being a feminist. Harry is an amazing example that I think many men can follow, harry already took his part. Because I think the more men turn into a feminist, we will have a better world.
