AES79 illicit affairs

I literally have no idea for today’s atomic essay so when I have no topic ideas, I usually just write something about Taylor Swift. Today I am going to talk about one of her songs in her album folklore and that is illicit affairs. Let’s get started. 

In the song, Taylor Swift talks about having a secretive relationship–possibly even a friends-with-benefits type of relationship with a person. But in the album folklore, most of the songs are not based on Taylor’s personal experience, most of it is just about something fictional. So back to the song, the word illicit means forbidden by law, rules, or custom. While I think it really matches the second-word “affairs” because affairs should be forbidden. 

The first time I was listening to this song, I found so many words that I didn’t understand. But I think that is really what makes the album folklore so amazing is that Taylor really took the time to choose the perfect words to make the song so visual. For example, is this lyric “And that's the thing about illicit affairs

And clandestine meetings and longing stares” The word clandestine means kept secret or done secretively, especially because illicit. It’s so genius that in the definition of one of the lyrics it mentions the title of this song. 

This is my favorite part, and I think it really describes when a relationship is filled with lies. “They show their truth one single time But they lie, and they lie, and they lie A million little times” Just like what people say, save the best for the last.

The last lyric of this song is also really good. “And you know damn well For you, I would ruin myself A million little times” It really shows how much you love someone to the point that you don’t even put yourself as a priority anymore. Taylor mentioned a million little times because she is referring to how the person who cheated broke her and lied to her a million little times, but she still went through that anyways.
