AES96 "not all men"

Women, we are told our whole lives to be serving men. By our mothers, fathers, siblings, grandparents, friends, teachers, news, history book, novels, movies, etc. We are told that “boys only want one thing”. Because we are not seen as a full human beings but we are seen as a body that they have full access to. 

Almost every day we hear stories about women and girls that have gone missing, harassed, assaulted, or abused. We might also know some of our friends or family that have experienced those things. Yet when we state that we're scared of men, were attacked and they say “but not all men”. 

We have seen generations of girls and women who are tired of being seen as this object that can just be used. Those girls and women tried to protest and find a solution. It breaks my heart that many generations of boys and men refuse to listen. Many men will say “me? But what I have done?” Exactly, that's the question, what exactly have you done?

Have you tried to listen to women? Do you use your voice to call out sexism? Do you and your friends find sexist jokes funny? Do you care about women’s issues only when a woman is murdered or do you actually care about the everyday struggles we women have to all face? 

Men’s fatal violence against women is enabled by the lack of respect for women as human beings and the refusal to listen to our concerns. 

People always say they respect women and girls. Well, I guess people in the 21st century are starting to make their own definition of respect. Respect isnt simply not hurting someone, respect isnt just about opening a door for a woman. 

The foundation of respect is to listen. Listen to women and girls, please.
