AES97 RA Kartini and Indonesian Education

So yesterday I watched a film about RA Kartini, and it got me thinking that I think most of us misunderstood her. I think every Indonesian person knows who she is but they only show appreciation towards her in a way that is just to make a good image of them. They only post on social media on Kartini day, so it benefits them. 

  I am not against people posting on social media about that, but I think that just posting is not enough.  it's weird because those people say that they appreciate her and even admire her but they can still be anti-feminist. I personally think if someone truly appreciates RA Kartini they should support feminism.

 Also, the way that our educational system introduces her doesn't give us the full story and highlight of theory. Most history lessons that I got about her are just about how she made a school for girls, and don't get me wrong that is a wonderful and impactful thing. But she had many opinions and theories about women’s rights that remain untold in our history classes, it's almost like our educational program and system doesn't want feminism to be discovered by students. 

I also see how our education really holds patriarchal values, and how it never really openly promotes gender equality. Especially hearing stories from my friends that go to more conservative and religious schools, there is sexism everywhere. So, if people actually appreciated RA Kartini, then we should have a system that isnt sexist, and a system that promotes feminist values. Because I personally think that was what she would've wanted.
