AES01 Emma Watson & HeforShe Campaign

My Idol is probably Emma Watson because she is very talented she plays roles in many of my favorite films and film series, for example, little woman and the harry potter series. She Inspires me in many ways and she’s the one to encourage me to become a feminist. She works for UN Women and she is working on a campaign called He for She. He for She is a solidarity movement for the advancement of gender equality. 

I love how Emma explains her campaign and her opinions on gender equality, and how she puts everyday examples that are so easy to understand for someone like me that’s just learning about feminism and her campaign. According to Emma, feminism is just about freedom, it’s about liberation, it’s about equality. 

In 2014 at the UN Women conference, Emma mentioned how feminism now has become a negative word, the word is now seen as somehow aggressive. “The more I’ve spoken about feminism, the more I have realized that now frighting for women’s rights, has too often become synonymous with man-hating. If there is one thing I know for certain, it is that this has to stop.” 

She also explained how gender-based assumptions confused her as a child, and that she found she was doing something wrong simply because she’s a woman. And because of Emma Watson, I am now proud to be a feminist and I am dedicated to contributing to making a gender-equal world for everyone.
