AES14 Accepting and loving my body

Saskia Electrapenulis arsip2

I have struggled with my body image for some time, very significantly at 6th grade I hit puberty and my skin was just full of acne not only on my face but on my back. They’re both hormonal acne, especially my back acne its caused by stress. Even now every time Im like really stress my back acne will break out again. I was one of the first people in my class at the time that had acne, and I have no idea what is skincare and how to properly take care of my skin. My friends would make fun of my acne and it really bothered me, it made me so insecure. I would look at the mirror and completely hating what I saw.

But their time passed and I learned basic skincare and my skin got better, but still, it’s hormonal so I can really 100% get rid of them. After that, I started gaining some weight, Im a stress eater so that really plays a big role in me gaining weight. I started noticing that I had belly fat and that I had stretch marks on my thighs. And about my thigh, they’re huge, and they kinda rub against each other and that really made me hate myself. I gained a lot of weight during the pandemic, I started by being 45 kg, and now Im 52 kg.

Im someone that loves wearing shorts and sleeveless tops, but my hands were huge so were my tights, and some people would point them out which made me very uncomfortable. So, I started wearing oversize clothes, they were trending anyways so why not. I tried everything to cover my lower stomach, that’s why Im obsessed with high-waisted pants.

But now I’ve learned to love the body I have, I realized that this body does everything for me and the way it looks is the last thing I should be concern about. Even tho my body is a mid-size body but the things I can do with this body. I can lift cooking gas, 2 sacks of soil, like Im so strong. I started to highlight the good parts of my body and I know that everyone’s body type is so different and unique, and it’s genetic so I can’t change it.

I took away the clothes that didn’t fit me in my closet that made me feel fat because guess what clothes are supposed to fit me not the other way around. I got really into fashion, I saw many creators on TikTok make outfit ideas for mid-size bodies. Your body type isn’t ugly is just underrepresented. And when I knew how to dress it changed my whole world. I feel like exploring your style can really be a game-changer.

And I am so much more than my body, I have a mind and a heart. I love my opinions and how Im always putting full effort in almost everything I do. I love that I have a passion, and I have dreams to make this world a better place.  I don’t know who needs to hear this, but you are beautiful as is, being your true self is what makes you beautiful. Do not listen when people say you are not valuable, believe me, you are worthy.

One meditation technique I learned from Sadhguru and one I have been practicing for more than a year now, is to do this : You sit down cross legged, hands on your thigh, palms facing up, your whole body should be relaxed and breath... When you breath in you say mentally (or you can also whisper) : I am not the mind, when you breath out you say mentally I am not your body.... That's it... You do that for at least 10 minutes or more. The question is what do you think about the 'mantra'... I thought' I'd share this with you Sas...
